Vulnerability in Microsoft PowerPoint Could Allow Remote Code Execution (916768)

Fortinet Security Research Team (FSRT) has discovered multiple improper memory access vulnerabilities of Microsoft Powerpoint.

Summary:

Multiple remote improper memory access vulnerabilities exist in Microsoft PowerPoint which could allow an attacker who successfully exploited these vulnerabilities to take complete control of the affected system.

Execution of arbitrary code leading to system compromise.

Details:

There are multiple vulnerabilities in Microsoft PowerPoint, A remote attacker could construct a .ppt file with malformed bits, when users open these .ppt files, and this will cause Microsoft PowerPoint an improper memory access. If specially crafted, this can cause execution of command.

These vulnerabilities is due to error manipulation of PowerPoint’s Record Type and Record Data.

Solution:

Microsoft PowerPoint users should apply the update provided by Microsoft.
